The Delegation on Population Census from Ministry of Planning of Bangladesh Visited NBS

Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of NBS, interviewed the Delegation of population census headed by Ms. Riti Ibrahim, General-Secretary of Statistical Division, Ministry of Planning of Bangladesh, on August 9.  

Mr. Ma Jiangtang expressed his welcome to the Delegation, and introduced China's upcoming Sixth National Population Census, he said that the Sixth National Population Census was the major task for NBS, and it would bring so many challenges at current status, such as large quantity of census objects and floating population, increasing awareness of privacy protection of census object, universal situations on person-household separation and so on. He pointed that NBS had adopted effective methods to make sure the census quality, such as drawing census district map accurately through advanced technologies, adopting face-to-face interviewing and effective propaganda to make it known by everyone and every households. Mr. Ma stressed that China’s population census was the important task for NBS, as well as for governments at all levels. The Census Leading Organs founded by governments at all levels took important roles for population census.   

Ms. Riti Ibrahim introduced that Bangladesh conducts population census every ten years as China, and will start next census on March 15, 2011. She hoped to get further understanding and learn more experiences on China’s population census through this visit. She also expressed welcomes to experts of NBS to teach experiences and hold technical trainings in Bangladesh.   

Messrs. Ji Fengxiang, Director-General, Department of Statistical Design and Management, Feng Nailin, Director-General, Department of Population and Employment Statistics, Zhang Jun, Deputy Director-General, Department of International Cooperation, and Yu Xubao, Deputy Counselor, Computer Center of NBS, attended the meeting.
