Mr. Ma Jiantang and the fellow delegation visited Office for National Statistics (ONS) of UK and National Statistical Service of Greece during June 13-18.

During the stay in UK, Mr. Ma Jiantang met with Ms. Matheson, National Statistician of ONS, and Sir Michael Scholar, the chair of the Statistics Authority. They made a presentation of the management and reform of the British statistical structure, the overview of statistical legislation and regulations, the statistical quality guarantee and evaluations, the data dissemination and the measures of public trust promotion, etc.. The both sides are willing to enhance the exchanges and cooperation between two statistical organizations, and are willing to boost common development on official statistics.

Mr. Ma Jiantang addressed to the members of China-Britain Business Council on June, 16, titled “China Macro-economy: Current Status and Future”, which stated the current status of China’s economy, the countermeasures adopted during this global financial crisis and the achievements, the international economic relations, especially the Sino-Britain economic relations. Mr. Ma answered the questions related to China’s economy and statistics as well.

Mr. Ma Jiantang also paid a visit to School of Contemporary Chinese Studies in the University of Nottingham. He summarized the exchanges and cooperation in agricultural statistics field between SCCS and NBS, discussed the prospect on intelligent training with Mr. Yao Shujie, Dean, School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, University of Nottingham.

During the visit in Greece, Mr. Elias Pallaskorvedis and other officials introduced the measures are taken on statistical legislation, management and on data dissemination after debt crisis. They also expressed the current status of Hellenic statistical systems. China and Greece are willing to enlarge cooperation and exchanges in statistical field in the future.
Mr. Ma Jiantang also visited the National Bank of Greece. The senior economist of the bank introduced the evolution of Greece debt crisis and the countermeasures taken by Hellenic government.
The members of the Chinese delegation included Messrs. Du Weiqun, Director-General, Department of International Cooperation, Ji Fengxiang, Director-General, Department of Statistical Design and Management, Sheng Laiyun, Deputy Director-General, Department of Comprehensive Statistics, Hao Kangli, Director-General, Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Statistics, Song Zhishen, Director-General, Survey Organization of Shandong of NBS.
