Mr. Ma Jiantang Met with the Professor of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School

Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of NBS, met with Mr. Lawrence Brown, Statistical Professor of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and Ms. Zhao Hong, Associate Statistical Professor, on July 20 in Beijing. Mr. Brown also acts as Academician of National Academy of Sciences of United States, as well as membership of Statistical Consultative Commission of United States.  

Mr. Ma Jiantang introduced China’s statistical system, the relationship among governmental statistics, section statistics and local statistics, works and quality guarantees on the Sixth National Population Census, and so on. Mr. Ma Jiantang pointed out that, China’s population Census is an important task not only for NBS, but also for all levels of governments. China will give full play to self advantage on organizations, to the power of all governments and sections and to the mobilization of the social forces to perform the census works in success. 

Mr. Brown conveyed the intention from Robert Groves, Director of the U.S. Census Bureau, on cooperation and exchange in Statistical areas especially in the field of population census with NBS. Mr. Ma Jiantang welcomed to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and discussed  challenges and problems faced by both census intuitions.

Messrs. Du Weiqun, Director-General, Department of International Cooperation, and Feng Nailin, Director-General, Department of Population and Employment, NBS, attended the meeting.
